On the day, the Active Streets team will close off your road using our Active Streets banner, which we attach to two wheelie bins. We ask that a few of your neighbours can help to ‘steward’ the event so that the road will be kept safe – we will help to train them up beforehand. You and your neighbours can still have access in your cards, but they will have to be driven at walking pace when coming in or out of the closure area, led by our staff.
You can have a range of activities running at your street closure; from litterpicking, to Zumba, to a friendly chat over a cup of tea! You could also use the space for collecting food donations, sharing tools or toys, and anything else that you and your neighbours want to get involved with. We will make sure it is set up in a safe way, with enough room to make sure we can all be social distancing.
Street closures usually last for 2-3 hours, but this can be decided at your consultation meeting. We will let everyone know 10 minutes before we reopen the road, and we ask everyone helps to make sure to leave the road as clean and tidy as we found it. The road will then be open to traffic, so it would not be safe to carry on with any activities in the road after this time.
