On the day of the street closure, our Community Activators will use our Active Streets banner to cordon off the road using two wheelie bins. We ask that a few residents from your street volunteer to steward the event between the hours that the road is closed.
Don’t worry, the ‘road closure’ won’t stop you from having car access to your house. The only real difference is that through traffic will be diverted and residents will be asked to drive in and out at walking speed.
Once the road is closed, we’ll set up the games and equipment. All you need to do is come outside, bring a cup of tea if you fancy, and get chatting.
For ideas of the types of activities or themed events you could have on your street, check out our Inspiration and Stories page.
If there’s something extra that you’d like to organise with your neighbours, let us know and we can support you with this.
At the end of the closure, we ask that residents help us to leave the road as we found it. Ahead of closing time, we will remove the equipment, clear up, let participants know that we will re-open the road, and safely remove the barriers and return the wheelie bins.
