Walk and picnic event at Aston Park

On Saturday 25th June, we ran a community fun day at Aston Park with Commonwealth Games inspired activities for all the family. The event was in celebration of the Step Back Out project, which has encouraged people to get active in their local communities via 1:1 support walks, walking and running groups.

New Hope Global helped support the event alongside several of our internal delivery teams: health, community delivery and the food team to help deliver a wonderful morning of activities.

We started the day with a gentle walk around the park led by Jamie, Walk and Run Lead. Listening to the birds, seeing the summer flowers in bloom and providing social connection for all involved. Sally, Walk and Run Co-ordinator led an advanced walking group that looked to include more functional exercises for the whole body.

We were joined by Active Communities’ very own Faeeza Vaid and TAWS’, Sally Bynoe both Baton bearers for The Queen’s Baton Relay event who helped give out medals for all who took part. The children loved getting a glimpse of the official outfits of the CWG Baton bearers!

To add some creativity into the mix, we set up an arts and crafts table where we made windmills alongside the mini-games event.

We rounded the day off with fresh, piping hot pasta produced from surplus food by our amazing food team, who brought along juice and fruit for everyone.

I really enjoyed the day it was nice to spend time with the local community. There was so many games and activities for my kids, and we really enjoyed the warm pasta after all that running. It was nice to see the different things you (TAWS) do and speak to staff

This was a great day, with so many people coming up and joining in. There was a great range of activities from races and archery to craft table… there was something for all my kids

Overall, the day was a huge success and with lots of happy faces and the community coming together for a lovely day in the park. We would like to thank all of the amazing people who came out and joined, our wonderful staff and the lovey people at New Hope Global.
