Step-by-step guide

Please take care when crafting and always use adult supervision.

What You Will Need

1 – 3 unusable t-shirts or other material to be recycled

A tape measure

Scissors

Pen/pencil

Step 1

Calculate the length needed for the skipping rope (your height x 2)

Step 2

Measure and draw a 4cm thick line all the way around the hem and continue it up the t-shirt like a snake until you have your desired length

Step 3

Cut diagonally to the first line and following the markings around the t-shirt

Here is your first strand

Step 4

Repeat twice more either using the same t-shirt or other recycled material. You need 3 equal strands in total

Step 5

Tie a strong knot in the end with a hand length of extra fabric – this will be a handle

Step 6

Begin to plait the fabric tightly together by overlapping the right strand over the middle strand, then left over middle strand and repeat. E.g. red over yellow, blue over red, yellow over blue etc. Pull plait tight and continue all the way down.

Step 7

Once finished, keep some fabric at the end to tie strongly for your other handle. Trim to shorten or attach to another DIY skipping rope to make it longer.

Step 8

Start skipping and enjoy!
