Spotlight on…Birmingham Community Solidarity

This ‘Spotlight on…’ blog series is aimed at shining a light on some of the 70+ partner organisations that are making the #BrumTogether campaign possible.

Next up on the spotlight list, is Birmingham Community Solidarity:

Q. What do you do?

A. Our Birmingham Community Solidarity group is a platform for individuals and grassroots groups throughout the city to link and work together to respond to issues both pre-COVID-19 and during the current pandemic. Through the Facebook group, those in different parts of the city can come together, discuss ideas, and in the current situation, request and offer help to those in need.

Q. How are you helping #BrumTogether?

A. We’ve created a group that has almost 4,000 members, where many of the members found their neighbours and created local response groups. We’re receiving requests via our Facebook page, group as well as emails, and connecting people who need help with volunteers who signed up with us to offer their skills, time, delivering parcels, collecting prescriptions, etc.

We’re also running a food distribution centre at The Station in Kings Heath.

Q. Are you doing anything else to help Birmingham communities?

A. We provide additional support wherever we’re able to ourselves, but we also signpost people to other services, help fulfil requests for repairs, essential appliances, information, etc.
