Over the past few months the Wellbeing Team have been in Handsworth visiting people to find out more about the community and it’s community activists. ‘Active Communities’ event in Handsworth is the first event in a series to bring people together to make things better locally across Birmingham.

Five years on, playing out in Birmingham has developed into Active Streets, and has grown exponentially.
Today our Active Streets supported two events in the Northfield district – celebrating Kings Norton Park’s fantastic achievement in becoming a Green Flag Park, and the newly created Northfield Community Garden.
With our first event done, we are coming away with a feeling of excitement. Pots were planted, shrubs were established and neighbours aquainted.
Active Streets concept was developed from “Playing Out”, which began in Bristol. We began running Active Streets following National Playday 2013, where three streets in Birmingham were closed for children to play. Active Streets recognised that by stopping traffic on a street local residents could lead their own events to
