What is Bikeability?

Bikeability is a cycle training programme for all levels of cycling, from complete beginners who want to learn to ride, to more experienced cyclists who want to cycle more often, on or off road. The Active Wellbeing Society delivers Bikeability sessions all year round in schools and local community settings- completely free for both adults and children. https://www.bikeability.org.uk

Bikeability in schools

The Active Wellbeing Society is offering all schools in Birmingham the opportunity to have a range of cycle training delivered on site and on road to teach a vital life skill.

All training is completely free to schools and pupils, and is delivered by fully qualified and DBS checked local instructors.

All Bikeability activities will give you points towards ModeShift STARS awards.

Primary School Bikeability

We offer a range of Bikeability sessions for Primary Schools throughout the year, including:

– Level 1 Bikeability: Off-road cycle skills development for Primary Years 3/4
– Level 1/2 Bikeability: On and off-road sessions for Primary Years 5/6
– Bikeability Fix: These sessions teach pupils how to perform basic maintenance on their bike

Secondary School Bikeability

Secondary School Bikeability training starts with a quick assessment to gauge cycling ability and find the appropriate training level for the pupil.

We can offer free Level 2 on road Bikeability training for Year 7 pupils in curriculum time. Schools who sign up for our Year 7 offer are given priority for Years 8-11 Level 3 training in P.E. lessons (Level 3 teaches pupils how to cycle on multi-lane roads and use complex junctions).

Additional lessons covering GCSE P.E, Cycle Maintenance Course/Frame Academy and Dr Bike are also available.

Pupils will be encouraged to use their own bikes if they have one, but these can be loaned if needed.

Please book quickly as these places fill up fast!

SEND Bikeability

We can offer full Bikeability to all SEND schools and pupils with SEND. Training is delivered by instructors who have experience and a passion for working with children with additional needs. We will work with you to discuss your school’s individual needs to ensure that we deliver a course to meet your pupils’ requirements.

We are working with TomCat to provide Trikes that provide freedom, mobility, joy and normality to those of all ages struggling with physical and neurological problems. We will continue to expand our fleet of adapted bikes and trikes so we can meet the needs of all individuals. Please contact us to discuss the needs of children in your school and find out what services we can provide tailored to their needs.
