5 reasons to join in with The Active Wellbeing Society in January

It’s cold and miserable outside and all you really want to do is stay indoors. We understand that. But why not break the cycle, kick start your New Year’s Resolution and find an event that’s of interest near you? The benefits could be huge!

With January now in full swing – it’s the perfect time to try something new. You can begin a healthy new year by joining our friendly and supportive running groups or participating in any of our upcoming events.

Here are 5 reasons to get involved in one (or more!) Active Wellbeing Society sessions this month and beyond.

Make new friends

There’s a saying that ‘you can never have too many friends.’ Meeting new people with interests that match your own is a great way to bond. All of our events are aimed at a mix of abilities, and our activators are also on hand to help you get the hang of things. So whether it’s an interest in art, family activities or exercise, why not join others all doing something you enjoy?

Improve your physical health

Even small changes in being active can make a big difference to physical wellbeing. We’re not suggesting you run a marathon! Perhaps join one of our led walking groups, complete the Couch to 5k or do some chair-based exercises. You don’t have to become an athlete, although we’re here to help if you want to!

Boost your mental health

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and it’s important for us to look after our minds in order to thrive. Being out in the fresh air, learning new skills and meeting new people all contribute to positive mental health. You can tick all three boxes at many of our events!

Get to know your neighbourhood

You may think you know your neighbourhood pretty well, but you could be surprised! Join one of our walk, run or cycling events and be led off the beaten track by our trained activators, to places you’ve never explored!

Learn something new

Try something you’ve never tried before or rediscover an old interest, like yoga, tai chi or even gardening. Whether you are an expert or a novice, everyone of all abilities and ages are welcome. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving, learn something new to boost your confidence and have fun at the same time!
