Steve Rose is the Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Knowledge and Insight at The Active Wellbeing Society. Having found an early passion for insight and innovation he is now bringing his expertise to bear against his other passion which is to create happy and healthy places using the power of physical and social activity.
He is a strategic thinker, innovator and problem solver. A geography graduate from the University of Leeds, his early career was in the private sector with Great Universal Stores and Avon Cosmetics using research and analytical techniques to understand customer behaviour. The last 16 years have been in public service working in the civil service, policing and local government. His career has always focused on the strategic management of data, analytics and building evidence using mixed method research techniques.
His current projects include: Active Communities – a major Sport England funded programme using activity as a way to stimulate civic engagement, Active Data – realising the value proposition of data supporting free to access physical and community activities; Community Wellbeing as a way to address climate change, Vital Cities – an international programme making cities places where people are active and socially connected; Horizon 2020SETA – Big Data innovations in urban mobility modelling
