Spotlight on…Bethany Community Outreach

This ‘Spotlight on…’ blog series is aimed at shining a light on some of the 70+ partner organisations that are making the #BrumTogether campaign possible.

Next up on the spotlight list, is Bethany Community Outreach:

Q. What do you do?

A. We’re a charity whose aim is to relieve the financial hardship among people living or working in the Birmingham area by providing food, goods and services that they could not otherwise afford through lack of means.

The main activities we offer are a mother and toddlers’ group, a digital hub, and predominantly, an emergency food bank. In addition to supporting those who are suffering financial hardship, we provide the opportunity for volunteers to gain work experience and benefit by developing new skills.

Q. How are you helping #BrumTogether?

A. We’re work together with The Active Wellbeing Society to provide food so that they can cook meals to feed the isolated and/or those most in need.

Q. Are you doing anything else to help Birmingham communities?

A. In addition to providing food for those in need, we partner with companies who deliver food parcels to those who are unable to leave the house due to the lockdown. Moreover, we regularly collect food from major supermarkets that would otherwise go to waste – not only does this help us to support vulnerable people, it reduces food waste. We’re also working alongside, Ann, from the Junk Food Project to help support those in need.
