Spotlight on…Highfield Hall Community Club

This ‘Spotlight on…’ blog series is aimed at shining a light on some of the 70+ partner organisations that are making the #BrumTogether campaign possible.

Next up on the spotlight list, is Highfield Hall Community Club (HHCC):

Q. What do you do?

A. We’re a charity that’s based in South Birmingham. Our aim is to maintain the community centre that we’re based in and the grounds, so that these facilities are accessible to local people and the wider Birmingham community for social, recreational, and educational activities.

We support the elderly and young and families with a variety of groups, activities and events to support their health and wellbeing and mental health, as well as social engagements and local events that bring people together and much more.

Q. How are you helping #BrumTogether?

A. We’ve been using our community centre as a food bank base that’s supporting the local and wider community.

We have all of the stock in the main hall and we send out food parcels to people who ring us or are referred from family centres, GPs, refuge centres or the Birmingham Wellbeing Network. To date, we’ve distributed over 300 food parcels. We have volunteers from groups, such as the Hall Green Isolation Group, who are supporting us with deliveries, all of these efforts all come together as a well-coordinated response and service for the people of Birmingham.

Q. Are you doing anything else to help Birmingham communities?

A. Yes, we’re supporting people in other ways by making calls to make sure the elderly and vulnerable don’t feel isolated and to check if they are ok.

We have a massive green area and garden that’s open to the public for visits while we’re open. We’re also providing free refreshments for frontline staff – they can drop by anytime for a coffee and snack in the garden.
