Food distribution

During the Covid-19 pandemic, The Active Wellbeing Society have been working with a network of voluntary organisations across the city to get food to those in need (cooked meals or ingredients). The network has been supported by experienced staff and volunteers, who have collected food donations and helped prepare, cook and distribute food in communities across Birmingham through food banks, community hubs and deliveries.

As we have moved out of the emergency phase for Covid-19 and with the easing of lockdown measures, The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) are no longer taking any requests for our emergency Covid-19 services We know our services have been a lifeline and we have tried to keep it running for as long as possible. However, due to funding coming to an end we will be unable to deliver these services.

The Active Wellbeing Society are deeply sorry to anyone affected and will still do our best to try and help you if you are in need. From 10th August, TAWS will be providing a limited number of emergency food parcels on a first come first served basis. This reduced service will mean we can no longer take requests for ‘repeat’ parcels.

To ask for a food parcel, you can telephone us on 0121 728 7030 Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm and Saturday 9.30am-4.30pm. Support is only available for Birmingham residents and we will aim to get one to you within 72 hours. If you phone us after our daily limit has been reached, we will try to signpost you to another organisation nearby who can help. Please note our phone lines do not operate on a Sunday and will be closed between Monday 3rd August until Sunday 9th August.

If you are unable to access alternative sources of food after Thursday 30th July, or return to using services in the community, then we have created a list of other organisations in Birmingham who may be able to assist you.
You can find a directory of local foodbanks by visiting www.findfoodbanksbrum.org.uk.
If you require emergency support with food, you can also find information on local foodbanks and emergency food provision here.

This resource gives contact information about alternative support and services, but it is strongly recommended that you contact the foodbank/group first to check if they are currently offering food parcels, and if so, how to access these.

Please note due to changes in circumstances after the time of publication, the accuracy of the information may be affected. The information may have changed without notice and The Active Wellbeing Society is not in any way liable for the accuracy of any information printed and stored or in any way interpreted and used by a user. We therefore encourage you to contact the organisation directly.
