Let’s Ride on #Carfreeday

Small heath ride active

Do you want to learn how to ride a bike, or do you already ride a little but want to improve skills and confidence?  Ride Active is for you!  We hold events all through the year – Book your place now, or join our next Let’s ride pop-up on #carfreeday 22nd September in Cannon Hill Park.

“[I met] new people and it was nice to share experiences. Knowing others were at the stage you are at helped to motivate me that I would get there.”

Ride Active is a pioneering bespoke programme run by British Cycling in association with Big Birmingham Bikes.  It is aimed at people who either can’t yet ride and want to learn, who haven’t ridden for a long time, or who can ride but are either still a little nervous or would like to improve basic skills.

Building confidence off road cycling

Building confidence off road

The strength of Ride Active is that it gets people riding in a fun and social environment, where everyone enjoys themselves and doesn’t feel pressured to achieve set results.  Indeed, a number of people who started with Ride Active have gone on to form their own groups so that they can still ride together.  Ride Active is also flexible in that we have adult sessions, women-only sessions, family sessions and sessions set up just for specific groups or organisations, all overseen by friendly, experienced instructors.  We also run our popular “Sofa to 50km Cycle Challenge” programme every summer.

“Fun, energetic, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable.”

People start in a traffic free environment (such as a basket ball court at a Wellbeing Centre) to develop basic skills, and then, when they are ready, they have the opportunity to go out on gentle led group rides with experienced leaders to look after them.  Ride Active is free and bikes are provided for the sessions although people are welcome to bring their own if they wish.

“Enjoyed very much and would definitely recommend to others.”

If you would like to join a session please go to www.letsride.co.uk – type “Birmingham” into the search box, click on the magnifying glass icon and scroll down to find the sessions that have “Ride Active” in their titles.   Alternatively, if you are a member of a group or organisation and you would like to talk to us about putting on Ride Active sessions.
