Spotlight on…Gas Street Church

This ‘Spotlight on…’ blog series is aimed at shining a light on some of the 70+ partner organisations that are making the #BrumTogether campaign possible.

Next up on the spotlight list, is Gas Street Church:

Q. What do you do?

A. We’re an Anglican church that’s split across two sites – on Gas Street and Great Colmore Street. We have a regular congregation of 800 people, the majority of which are under the age of 35.

Q. How are you helping #BrumTogether?

A. We’ve partnered with The Active Wellbeing Society and have set up an emergency pop-up Food Distribution Centre out of St Luke’s Church Centre on Great Colmore Street, as part of our #LoveYourNeighbour campaign. The campaign was set up as a direct response to COVID-19 in connection with other churches across the UK. We have over 60 mobilised volunteers supporting the project.

We’re delivering up to 300 regular food parcels a week to our local area (Ladywood/Attwood Green/Five Ways) and supporting other organisations across the city with their incredible work.

Q. Are you doing anything else to help Birmingham communities?

A. We’re offering a phone companionship service to those who feel isolated and are vulnerable at this time, and are encouraging our volunteers to support safe families in their work to support vulnerable children and families.
