This ‘Spotlight on…’ blog series is aimed at shining a light on some of the 70+ partner organisations that are making the #BrumTogether campaign possible.
Next up on the spotlight list, is Crisis Skylight Birmingham:
Q. What do you do?
A. Every year, we work with thousands of people to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good. We offer a range of classes, training and one-to-one support to help people through their experience out of homelessness.
However, everyone is different, and how we can help depends on someone’s needs and situation. Crisis is a national charity, but we are a small team of 30 here at Crisis Skylight Birmingham.
Q. How are you helping #BrumTogether?
A. By getting involved with #BrumTogether, we have been able to partner with a number of fantastic organisations to direct emergency food parcels and hot meals to people, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and have no other means of accessing nutritious meals and essential supplies during the pandemic.
Q. Are you doing anything else to help Birmingham communities?
A. Although our office is shut, we are continuing to deliver our learning and coaching services remotely. We have also developed some new services to try and mitigate social isolation and digital exclusion during the pandemic.
This includes: creating and delivering wellbeing packs, both to Crisis members and those who have been supported into emergency hotel accommodation by the local authority; organising wellbeing calls; delivering donations of books, puzzles and craft materials and sourcing donations of mobile phones and tablets to help people access health services, learning materials and retain vital communication channels while in isolation.
