Community Cafés

The Big Feed Project provides free meals to people across Birmingham to ensure everyone has access to nutritious and tasty cooked food. The meals are made from locally sourced surplus food that would otherwise end up in landfill- combining the fight against food waste, food poverty and social isolation all at once!

During the pandemic, demand for food support has increased rapidly and the community cafés are working within Covid-19 health and safety protocols to offer free, freshly cooked meals for collection, and some food parcels too.

The following community spaces are providing this take away service:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 11:30am – 1pm

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 12 – 1:30pm

Monday to Friday, 12 – 1:30pm

Thursdays, 11:30am – 1pm

Manningford Hall, Manningford Road, Druids Heath, B14 5TJ

Balsall Heath Farm, Malvern Street, Balsall Heath, B12 8NN

All Saints, Herbert Road, Small Heath, B10 0PR

The Spearhead Trust, Druids Heath, B14 5QP

Recipe kits

Thanks to Food for Life and Incredible Surplus (formerly known as The Real Junk Food Project Birmingham), the Big Feed Project is able to offer free recipe kits to collect from our community cafés.

Each recipe kit contains the recipe and all the ingredients required to make a dish such as a crumble or scone based pizza.

To request a kit, please fill in a request form here and our team will be in touch.

How you can get involved

  • Volunteer with us: email [email protected] to find out our current opportunities and how you can get involved
  • Visit a café: Enjoying a hearty meal from one of our community cafés helps reduce the amount of food that would otherwise go to landfill- doing your bit for the planet
  • Spread the word: Please tell others about our Big Feed Project and community cafés so we can reach as many people as possible, and ensure no one in our city goes hungry
  • Donate your surplus food to us: We are always looking for more surplus food donations that haven’t reached their use by date. We would love to hear from you if you are a business with surplus food about to reach or that has reached its best before date, or you have a glut of home grown veg you don’t want to go to waste. Our experienced team of creative cooks will be able to make it into something delicious to feed the community. If you have surplus food to donate, please get in contact via email: [email protected] – we would love to work with you!
