EmpowerHER

Supporting our workforce to provide positive experiences for women and girls to be active

11-26 April 2026

EmpowerHER-logo-colour-final-transparent-inc-strapline-scaled

EmpowerHER Festival 2026 has now finished. Head to the This Girl Can Birmingham page for latest activity and support.

Despite recent progress, women remain underrepresented as coaches and in leadership roles within the sport and physical activity sector. Coaches of women and girls often face unique challenges around inclusivity, retention, and wellbeing.

That’s why This Girl Can, Sport Birmingham, and The Active Wellbeing Society is hosting EmpowerHER. EmpowerHER is a multi-location, hybrid festival, with a focus on supporting leaders, coaches, and volunteers to create positive experiences for women and girls engaging in sport and activity.

The festival programme will focus on the following themes:

Inclusive Coaching Practice – Creating safe, welcoming and empowered spaces to be active

Health & Wellbeing – Covering topics such as mental health and menstrual health

Leadership & Pathways – Equipping women with the skills, confidence and networks to enter and thrive in the sector

Training & Development – Formal coaching qualifications, awards and minimum operating standards training

We want the festival to be the start of a movement towards a more equitable and supportive sector for women to be a part of, continuing this important work after the festival ends.
