Can you help stock the Share Shacks?

We run a number of Share Shacks across Birmingham – and they’re in need of more stock! The Share Shacks are libraries of things, places where you can borrow something for which cost is a barrier, or that you may not have the space to keep. Currently there’s a permanent location in Ladywood, with one coming to Tyseley and the Share Shack van pops up in other places around the city. They work in collaboration with other TAWS support services, such as community cafes, street closures, and Sustainability Sunday events.

The Shacks contain sports equipment, games, and household and gardening tools, but their popularity and the expansion of the project means they need more stock. That’s why we’re asking anyone who has something they no longer need, but that could be useful to others, to consider donating it to the Share Shacks. There’s demand for sports equipment, tools for DIY, gardening equipment and household appliances. Having a resource like this, a place where you can borrow a “thing”, a lawnmower maybe, or a tennis racket, was recognised by The Sunday Times as one of the markers of a good place to live. It’s environmentally friendly and cost effective, no one has to buy something to use once, and forgotten items get a second life.

Donations can be dropped off from Monday to Friday in Ladywood (194 St Vincent Street West) between 10am and 4pm. There’s pop up Share Shacks in Nechells, Billesley and Brandwood – the timetable is here – and donations are being taken at the TAWS office at Hay Hall Manor in Tyseley (B11 2BE). If your donation is too big or bulky to carry, then we will try and arrange for the mobile Share Shack van to come to you – just email [email protected].
