Turn your road into a safe, vibrant community space where children can play out and residents can get to know each other – all on your own doorstop. Organising a road closure is a great way for you to collaborate with your neighbours and take ownership of your shared space.
The Active Streets team will provide step-by-step guidance when planning, organising and delivering your road closure. We will support you to hold a consultation with your neighbours to talk about what you want to do on your road, we will submit the closure application to your local Council on your behalf, and provide activities and ‘Community Activators’ on the day.
Organising a road closure is completely free. We ask that you help co-create and organise the event to ensure that it’s right for your road.
We work with an extensive network of local authority services and other partner organisations that can help with street events. This can provide residents with the opportunity to consult with local groups about matters that affect your neighbourhood.
An Active Street can help build confidence, get neighbours talking, and combat social isolation. Research has shown that road closures promote social and physical wellbeing, create stronger communities and a greater sense of active citizenship.
