The Active Wellbeing Society is not running all of its regular activities due to covid-19 restrictions. We have adapted our Active Streets offer to ensure it is inline with government guidelines and includes additional safety measures. We are keen to hear from individuals who would like to get involved with a street closure, and will work together to ensure the event is as safe, fun and friendly as possible.
What could you use your road for? Active Streets can help you to create a safe space where everyone is welcome: children can play and make new friends, adults can chat to neighbours and everyone can get active together! Working alongside your neighbours, we will work with you to create the street event you would like- a friendly and relaxed space with more room for social distancing!
The Active Streets team will help you every step of the way; holding meetings with your neighbours on your street, planning activities for everyone to enjoy, and supporting the street closure on the day. We will submit the application to the council, and help to train up volunteers on your street to ensure your road and neighbours are safe on the day.
The best part; this is all completely free! All we ask is that you work with us so your street closure is exactly what you and your neighbours want.
We can help make you and your neighbours feel safer, by providing hand sanitising stations and making sure that everyone is social distancing on the day. We can talk through any worries that you and others might have, and help you to design your street closure so everyone will feel confident to get involved.
Working with Active Streets can help build confidence, make connections with your neighbours and reduce loneliness on your street. You could try a new activity, meet new people, share with others on your street, and get involved in your community. Getting active couldn’t be any easier – no need to travel to the park or gym, why not travel to your doorstep!
