Happy Health Holidays has come to Billesley Common, and locations across Birmingham! Marcus Belben, Community Practice Lead, spoke to Pat Rowland from Friends of Billesley Common and The Valley Riverside project:
“This is an important project across Birmingham and here in Billesley. I’m pleased we can do it and I’ll do all I can to make sure everyone knows about it.”Pat Rowland
Pat has been promoting Happy Healthy Holidays, a new programme that provides activities and free Food for children during the summer holiday. These activities add further excitement to all that’s happening in Billesley Common the summer. Marcus met Pat on a regular ‘Conservation Work Day’ together with and other more regular volunteers pond dipping, monitoring hedghogs and litter picking. Pat commented on the need for more volunteers, in particular people with specialist skills.
Volunteering locally in the longer term, or for shorter programmes like Happy Healthy Holidays, has huge personal benefits for volunteers as well as bringing communities closer together. You can start volunteering for Happy Healthy Holidays tomorrow – just contact us atHappyHealthyHolidays@theaws.org
There’s a lot to do in Billesley Common with The Active Wellbeing Society. We even have a weekly Tai Chi session, and we’re working alongside local people like Pat and volunteers in Billesley Common. Our ultimate aim is to get more people out together in our communities, feeling happier and healthier. If you are interested in joining us or have ideas get in touch at ActiveCommunities@theaws.org
