Following the continuous review of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) threat, The Active Wellbeing Society has made the difficult decision to cancel the scheduled Innovation Day due to take place on Tuesday 24th March 2020. This decision has been made in consideration of our members, employees, friends, families and also the wider community in accordance with government advice. All attendees will have been contacted, but please do email [email protected] if you have any queries. We will update this page regarding future Innovation Days in due course.
Innovation Days provide you with an opportunity to discover some of the key community wellbeing initiatives taking place as part of the Active Communities programme. Led by The Active Wellbeing Society, Active Communities aims to create innovative solutions to make it easier for people to access social and physical activity.
Innovation days showcase some of the work we are doing in practice and are ideal for councillors, officers and representatives of other voluntary organisations from within and outside of the sport, physical activity or wellbeing sector.
Active Communities is one of 12 national pilots supported by Sport England through the National Lottery funding, with the aim of bringing communities across Birmingham and Solihull together through social and physical activity.
The local delivery pilot brings together two local authorities, Solihull and Birmingham, working collaboratively to share knowledge and develop best practice across their administrative boundaries.
Innovation days have been tailor made to share key learnings we are finding from delivering community-based projects aimed at engaging the least heard. You will get to see some of these projects in action, as well as hear from some of the communities and staff who have been delivering on the ground. They will share the learnings they have gained through testing new ways of working and some of the common challenges.
The day is aimed at people who may be planning or delivering projects similar in nature to the work that we are doing. It gives you an opportunity to see what community level wellbeing initiatives in deprived communities look like in practice. We will also be showcasing our approach to community engagement, providing examples of techniques and practices that they might want to explore further.
